The Start of Steph Reviews

So recently, much to my dismay, we have cancelled our cable. Insert super complainy, whiney sentence here about how I've had cable since I was a child and cannot live without it. But really, it was hard on me. Being a hermit who would never leave my bed if I didn't have to, tv was my pastime. Anyway, getting on to the point of this post...as an alternative, we ended up getting hulu plus and Netflix. Now, I am still the only one in the house without a device (roku, ps3, ebox 360, wii, etc) to be able to play hulu or Netflix in my room so I'm stuck with 12 channels of antenna tv. Ugh. BUT I am able to go to the living room and watch away if no one is currently occupying the shared television. And while I do miss watching bravo and the newest episodes of Pretty Little Liars as they air (ok, let's be honest, I go to my dad's every Tuesday at 7 so I don't have to miss pll.), I'm actually pretty impressed with the selection these alternatives offer.

Now, I wouldn't go as far as to say they can entirely replace tv, but they do have some great benefits. Hulu plus has every single episode of Law and Order: SVU, which pleases me greatly. More than it probably should. But my sister and I are totally in love with that show. What's not to love? We even nicknamed our cats (Bentley and Grayceson) Benson and Graybler. Yeah, it might be a problem. I've also got to get my fill of Twilight Zone episodes and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Hey childhood, missed you! The scifi junkie in me also started watching The X-Files and am totally obsessed. I've even got to watch a bunch of documentaries, which I love. One called Craigslist Joe told the story of a man who lived 30 days exclusively off of craigslist. It was awesome!

Netflix is equally awesome, if not better. I've discovered Doctor Who, which now I understand the hype around. There are tons of shows I would totally watch like Extreme Couponing. And don't even get me started about the hilarious hipster comedy Portlandia, which literally makes me want to move to Portland. And the movies. Oh the movies. Mulan, my favorite Disney movie! And The Hunger Games. I mean, I might as well just call it a life and watch these programs indefinitely.

What I'm getting at here is I am going to try a new "segment", if you will, on my blog. Probably once a week, or more if I don't have a life.....so more, I will review a movie or program I've recently watched on most likely Netflix because this is what I enjoy in my free time. Hopefully it will be interesting, and given my writing style, I'm sure it will be. So look out for the first "Steph Reviews" soon! You never know, you just may find something interesting to watch.
